What remains?

With most of Tasmania waiting with baited breath to see what the wind and the fires will do, I can’t help but think what will remain after it’s all over. Although I believe people and property must come first, I wonder how much of our amazing wilderness will be affected. Land clearance and forestry has reduced so much, that natural fire occurrences such as these pose a real threat to the remaining pockets of high altitude native pines that are, in some cases, 1000’s of years old and will not survive or regenerate after fire. I am always astonished at how much we are NOT in control, no matter how much we kid ourselves.
